SongCouncil.com is an initiative to rate music in a streamlined manner. Our goal is to shine a spotlight on good and overlooked music. Each song is reviewed by 10 independent reviewers, based on their personal opinion about a number of parameters: Vocals, production, melody, overall song, lyrics etc. For each song 10 different parameters are used, with 0-10 being the possible rating for each category.
We need help making a great website, so if you would like to contribute, please reach out.

You will often see professional songwriters and other industry professionals claim that great songs will get played.
That may be so in many cases, but unfortunately a great song is not enough to get a song out. "old-school" artists and publishers and other promoters in the industry have to have the grit and tenacity to keep knocking on doors after countless rejections, industry connections help, being nice and likeable and good looking helps, moving to Nashville or other music hotspots helps, and the list goes on. Another route is online promotion directly to consumers, but you need to be a genius at marketing, social media, Youtube production, Spotify, distribution, copyright protections, and much more. But none of that has anything to do with the song's quality. You can have the best song in the world, and not a soul will ever hear it, if you are a shy introvert living in Alaska, who does not - or cannot - dedicate their life to begging people to listen to your material.
SongCouncil.com aims to give all music a chance to be heard, based on its merits, and less on your marketing skills or who you know or how good you look in a bikini or wearing a Stetson hat. We are not here to promote any careers or any music, we are here to share our reviewers' honest opinion about the music we review. Nothing more, and nothing less.
We will develop a song rating rubric, to be used by all our reviewers.
Any registered user can submit a song for review. Songs are placed in a queue, and randomly assigned to 10 differet reviewers. Anyone who contributes, will be offered to fast-track one or more songs for review.
Artists and labels will be offered an official Song Council online certificate, which they can use in their own promotion.
Productions should be of a certain quality, which we will try to define later. Whistling a melody idea, while the TV is running in the background while your baby is crying and your phone is ringing, will probably not get your song reviewed. Reviewers has the discretion to deem productions to be of too poor a quality, and reject them. When that happens, it goes to another reviewer. If he agrees, the song is disqualified. If the second reviewer disagrees with the first reviewer, the song is sent to a third reviewer, who will then decide is the production qualifies for review or not.
Our stance on AI: It's here, and it's here to stay, no matter which camp you belong to. Initially,we will accept any submission, AI or not, but the production and vocals etc. will be judged using the same criteria.
